Shehbaz Sharif background
Shehbaz Sharif born 23 September 1951 is a Pakistani politician and businessman who served as the 23rd “Prime Minister Of Pakistan” in term from April 2022 to August 2023. He is the Chairman of Pakistan Muslim League (N) (PML-N). Previously In his political career, he has served as Chief Minister of Punjab three times, making him the longest serving Chief Minister of Punjab in Pakistan
He has served thrice as Chief Minister of Punjab. Shehbaz first held the post from 1997-1999, before former military ruler Pervez Musharraf deported Sharif’s brother to Saudi Arabia.
2008-2013 and then from 2013-2018 More recently, he was the Leader of the Opposition in National Assembly during PTI exercising tenure.
Shehbaz is the second son of Mian Mohammad Sharif. He is an influential businessman and they co-own the Ittefaq group of companies. In 1985, he was re-elected president of the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Shehbaz was first elected as an MPA for the Punjab Legislative Assembly in 1988. He was elected to the National Assembly seat in 1990, and returned as an MNA.
However, in 1993, he again stood on the provincial assembly seat and became the Leader of the Opposition in the Punjab Legislative Assembly. His career ended in 1996 with the collapse of the Assemblies.
After winning the 1997 elections, Shehbaz got to serve the country’s largest province for the first time and remained its chief minister until Musharraf’s 1999 military coup
After returning from nearly a decade of exile, Shehbaz became Chief Minister of Punjab for the second time after the PML-N won a majority of seats in the province in the 2008 elections
In 2008, Shehbaz won three seats in the Punjab Legislative Assembly – PP-159, PP-161, PP-247, and one seat in the National Assembly (NA-129), but opted to retain the PP -159
Shehbaz has been married five times and currently has two wives, Nusrat and Tehmina. In 1973, he married his cousin Nusrat Shehbaz, with whom he has two sons and three daughters. He has one daughter with ex-wife Alia.
He married his second wife Tehmina Durrani in 2003. Shehbaz holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Government College
The second of Sharif’s three sons, Shehbaz received his primary education at St Anthony’s High School in Lahore and later went on to pursue a Bachelor of Arts degree at the prestigious Government College University in the same city
His eldest son and political heir, Hamza Shahbaz, is currently serving as Leader of Opposition in the Punjab Legislative Assembly and is a chief ministerial candidate amid the ongoing political crisis in the province.
The Sharif family entered politics in the early 1980s, when the country was run under martial law.
Nawaz was the first in the family to enter politics, joining the provincial cabinet as the youngest finance minister under then Punjab Governor General Ghulam Jilani
Political opponents derisively call Sharifs “a product of martial law and General Jilani.”
Achievements
Shehbaz is considered to be strong and determined as well as a brilliant manager. He achieved visible success in development work in Punjab, and the Metrobus projects in Punjab were widely cited as one of his great achievements.

Despite the recent and distant hardships faced by his brother, which also forced the elder Sharif into exile, Shehbaz is loyal to Nawaz “I believe that Nawaz Sharif is the only Pakistani politician and leader who can be called Jinnah’s political heir.
